We are meeting a pre-missionary (who will come to the CCM in January) and her mother. A son is in the CCM now. The mother burst into tears when we asked what message she wanted us to take to her son. It will be a sacrifice to give 2 children to the Lord for a time. BUt she is a convert and brightened up when she spoke of her 'missionaries' 12 years ago.
Wonderful hosts, Presidente y Hna Lorenzana, at the mission home. They are from Honduras...have many talents...2 great teenagers and treated us like wonderful friends.
Visiting the mountaintops of Momostenango where it was cold. What a lovely chapel for these faithful people. Last year when Elder Eyring came to visit, the people all cleaned their shoes and carried them around their necks. When they arrived at the chapel, they washed their feet, put on their clean shoes, and entered 'clean' to hear from a prophet/apostle of God.
Two of our 'daughters' from the CCM. They are great sisters in this area. This was a beautiful forrest area coming down the mountainside.

It 's so great to share your experiences with us! We will miss you at Christmas this year. Sad to say the Grand Family is not happening this year very well. With Shaylee moving and Mom in Washington with Teasha. We will try harder next year.
I agree, it's so great to share these experiences with you! I love seeing pics of you and Dad loving your mission there...
Hello, I happened upon your blog when I "googled" Jocotenango Barrio. My sister and brother in law recently moved to Antigua and my mom and I are leaving on the 31st for a one week visit. We were hoping to visit the temple but it looks like it may be closed that week for maintenance. My sister (Kristen) grew up in the church but has not attended for quite some time and has married someone who is not a member. Walter (cuñado) is originally from Guatemala but hasn't lived there in almost 20 years. We would like to introduce them to as much church as we can while we are there. Would it be possible to visit the MTC (or CCM as it's called down there)? Do you know if there is a visitor's center at the temple and if it's open? Since you've been there quite some time, you may know some good church sites we might visit while we're there. I would be most appreciative of any information you can provide. By the way, I looked for a way to contact you directly but could find no way. I hope you don't mind this request as a "comment" ;-)
Mike, you can e-mail us at standtaller@msn.com. You are right the temple is closed 1st-15th...no Visitor Ctr...you could visit CCM on 6th, when we are in between changes and have only a few missionaries. Communicate via email and I will give you a number to call so we can arrange a time. The President of that mission (Guat Central) Baldwin may be a great resource to help you find the chapel and bishop in Jocotenango.
By the way, I love the market with fruits and vegetables...
